This may have been worn with mail over it or a plainer tunic for combat (see the figure behind) 3 Trousers 4 Boots 5 Long slashing sword 6 Long spear 7 Shield, the decoration is given in the Notitia Dignatum as belonging to the Ascarii Iuniores. 8 This shield is attributed to the Iovani Seniores in the Notitia Dignatum. |
